Our Story 2016 - Now

2016 & 17
The uncannily cyclic nature of life reaches a glorious apex when Cabbages & Roses’ pyjamas feature across a double page spread in our founder’s early training ground, Vogue – worn by none other than the ever-chic Victoria Beckham.
Riding a crest of that high, it is, quite astonishingly, followed up with Kate Middleton gracing Vogue’s Centenary edition in Cabbages & Roses. We are humbled, honoured – and only very slightly hysterical.

2017
We sign a licensing partnership with Wacoal. Cabbages & Roses florals, room wear and cosy clothing are incoming to 250 shops across Japan.

2018
Life, like nature, always seems to come full circle. After 16 glorious years in London, it’s time to bring Cabbages & Roses home to Somerset, back to our green valley and within sight of Mama Cabbages’ veg patch and rambling roses.

ASHLEY WILDE 2019
A long term licensing relationship begins with the development of Cabbages & Roses bed linens.

BRUTON 2020
Between a global pandemic and lock downs, new chapters begin with doors opening to our new Bruton flagship shop, head office and warehouse, creating a pocket dedicated to the loveliest florals in one of the prettiest corners of Somerset.

2021
Cabbages & Roses features in the Daily Dress edit, capturing the imagination of DDE’s many followers – amongst them Carrie Johnson, who wears hers to the Conservative party conference.

2022
Violet Dent, Brigette’s daughter and Christina’s first ever design assistant, as well as her best friend comes back to the cabbage patch in preparation to take up the mantle as our future Creative Director.

OCTOBER 2022
The Cabbage world comes to a standstill as Mama Cabbage is diagnosed with a fast-moving cancer. She greets the news with grace, equanimity, humanity, humour and compassion.
She holds a party for her beloved friends on 5 November 2022, and we mark not just the moment but This Glorious Life with a single, beautiful firework. There are some tears, lots of laughter and the place brims with love.
As her life draws to its end, she keeps on showing us how to live it
beautifully.

DECEMBER 2022
In December, two days after her 68th birthday, Christina ‘Mama Cabbage’ Strutt dies at home in her own bed, surrounded by her loving family. It brings to a close an era that has defined all of our lives. But, true to way she lived her life, Christina planted the seeds for the next chapter long ago.

2023-4
Violet takes the creative helm of the company and saves the day - working with our trusted and beloved Cabbages; we manage to carry on.

March 2025
We finally close the doors on bi-annual fashion collections to focus on our roots as a lifestyle brand.
Fabrics, wallpapers and exciting collaborations are on the horizon.
